Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys had a shaky start to the semifinals of Dancing with the Stars Monday night. He didn’t let that stop him as he saved his best work for last, ending the night with a perfect score. Since Tamar Braxton had to withdraw from the competition, the remaining four couples performed an unlearned dance, participated in a dance-off with another couple, and teamed up with another professional dancer in a trio.
Carter and his partner, Sharna Burgess, first performed a tango to Alesso’s “Scars”. Some footwork issues were present in the dance. With solid 8s from the judges, their tango received a 24 out of a possible 30. While it wasn’t the greatest start to the night, there were still two more dances to perform.
For the dance-off, Carter and Burgess went up against Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough. The winning couple received an extra three points from the judges, so this could really help Carter. They performed a samba to Major Lazer and DJ Snake’s “Lean On”. While Carter stepped it up, Irwin and Hough gained the extra points.
Finally, it was time for the trio round. Former pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd was brought in to dance with Carter and Burgess. They danced a salsa to the Empire cast’s version of “No Doubt About It”. This was the time for Carter to really deliver and give a good performance, and that’s what he did. He left everything on the dance floor. All three judges awarded the dance perfect 10s, for a perfect 30.
After that score, it was time to see which couple would be leaving the competition. In a shocking twist, Carter and Irwin were the two celebrities in jeopardy of going home. Normally, when a contestant has to withdraw from the competition, all of the couples are safe. This turned out to be the case, as all four couples learned they would perform in next week’s finals.
